Out on the Weekend is a genre-spanning music show designed for unhurried listening — a space where songs, stories, and feeling unfold at their own pace.
Moving fluidly across decades and styles, the show brings together old favourites, deep cuts, and new discoveries, guided by instinct and a strong sense of musical identity. An episode might move from Patti Smith to Leon Bridges, from The Tragically Hip to Baby Nova, or from Simon and Garfunkel into Broken Social Scene — each selection chosen for how it fits within the flow of the hour.
Every track is chosen for what it carries: the history behind it, the artist's perspective, the moment it came from, and the feeling it leaves behind. Built for weekend afternoons, it's warm, thoughtful, and easy to settle into.
Tune in Saturdays at 4PM ET on CIUT 89.5 FM, or stream live at ciut.fm.
Griffin Sokal is a Toronto-based creative producer, brand strategist, and storyteller with over fifteen years of experience building programs, partnerships, and content that connect people to culture.
She began her career in 2009 at Manitoba Film & Music, working at the intersection of arts advocacy, artist development, and industry infrastructure. From there she spent eleven years at Canada's Walk of Fame — rising to Director of Marketing — where she served as the organization's creative engine, leading brand strategy, content development and production, including graphic design.
At CWOF, Griffin built two flagship national programs from scratch: the Emerging Musician Program, which identified and championed emerging Canadian talent through major partnerships including RBC, and Future Storytellers — a film program for underrepresented youth developed in partnership with NBCUniversal.
She developed and managed sponsorships for her programs, contributed to large-scale event production, and created Candid Campfire — a long-form interview series featuring 70+ conversations with past prime ministers, Olympians, award-winning actors, and celebrated musicians including Our Lady Peace, The Trews, Sam Roberts, Fefe Dobson, William Prince, Tom Cochrane, and more.
Music has always been at the heart of it. Griffin has been a volunteer radio host for over fifteen years — at UMFM in Winnipeg and now at CIUT 89.5 FM in Toronto — and Out on the Weekend is where that lifelong passion finds its purest expression.
Out on the Weekend is more than a radio show — it's a platform for music discovery, artist storytelling, and cultural connection, with a growing audience of engaged, passionate listeners.
We welcome conversations with artists, publicists, labels, brands, and cultural organizations who share our values. Whether you're looking to reach new audiences, support emerging talent, or align with authentic music storytelling, we'd love to hear from you.
Out on the Weekend is part of a growing creative venture dedicated to music, storytelling, and cultural production. More coming soon.
In February 2026, Griffin joined CIUT's Radio Recall for an in-depth interview about her career, her love of music, and the story behind Out on the Weekend.
